- Bain's 2024 research found that 88% of business transformations fall short of their original ambitions. The issue is rarely the technology, it is the people and priorities behind it.
- Is the leadership aligned? Executives and directors need the same understanding of what the transformation involves, not only the sponsor who signed the engagement.
- Is the team on board? The people whose work will change need to understand the vision, the reasoning and what it means for them. McKinsey puts the digital transformation failure rate at roughly 70%.
- Is there a clear decision maker? Someone must have the mandate to approve trade offs, reduce scope and unblock departments. EY and Oxford Saïd research found 96% of programmes hit at least one turning point.
