Context

Fuel retail was never a software business. That changed.

Fuel retail has always been a business of forecourts and transactions, not software. When Petrolina (Holdings) Public Ltd, one of Cyprus' leading energy companies with one of the country's largest service station networks, looked ahead, it recognised that the ground was shifting. Customer expectations were evolving, loyalty programmes were going digital and AI was beginning to reshape the way energy companies operate. Petrolina set out to build the digital foundations for its future growth. What began in early 2022 with the MyPetrolina app grew into a sustained advisory relationship, with Capacitor Partners supporting Petrolina's Marketing Department throughout its digital transformation journey.

The opportunity

One digital relationship with every customer

The MyPetrolina loyalty app was the starting point, rewarding customers across Petrolina, Agip and Eni stations, but it was only the beginning. Petrolina's Marketing Department wanted a single digital relationship with each customer, one built on a trusted, scalable platform that could be continuously improved rather than treated as a one-off project. Alongside the technology, it wanted its own people ready for an AI-enabled future. Delivering all of this at once required an advisor who could bring product, technical and AI expertise to the team without the department having to build a large permanent function from scratch.

The approach

A trusted advisor, not an outside firm taking over

Petrolina's Marketing Department turned to Capacitor Partners as its trusted advisor: a partner that could work alongside the team, bringing product expertise, technical depth and AI literacy, while helping the department lead its own transformation. The support advanced across two connected areas.

01
Product management
Through its Product Manager as a Service offering, Capacitor Partners supported the Marketing Department as an embedded product function.
Operations, customer support and development were coordinated through a single product cadence rather than separate workstreams.
Structured monthly insight cycles combined analytics with direct user feedback, informing the roadmaps the department set for the app.
02
People and AI readiness
Capacitor Partners designed and delivered a three-session programme, AI in the Energy Industry: From Fundamentals to Practice.
Nearly 70 professionals across the business built their own AI literacy, from fundamentals through to applied practice.
The programme closed with a hands-on simulation in which cross-functional teams made live AI decisions for their own areas.
The results

A platform, a product engine and an AI-ready workforce

01
MyPetrolina has become one of Cyprus' most successful loyalty apps, engaging thousands of users.
02
Growth is measured where it matters most: active users and sustained engagement, not just downloads.
03
Insight, rather than guesswork, shaped every release — from personalised user groups to an expanded rewards catalogue.
04
Nearly 70 professionals across the business now share a common, practical grounding in AI.
05
The Marketing Department led the transformation throughout, with Capacitor Partners working alongside the team.

With a modern platform, a proven product engine and an AI-ready workforce now in place, Petrolina is positioned to unify every part of the customer relationship and keep setting the digital pace for energy in Cyprus.

“What we value most about Capacitor Partners is the way they work alongside us. Across everything from our digital platforms to building AI literacy across our teams, they carry the expertise and structure we are looking for, while the strategic direction and decisions remain our own. It is a partnership that has helped Petrolina move forward with confidence, and one we expect to carry well into the future.”
